Description
The location of Heliconia is unparalleled, just a few steps from the soft golden sands of Habaraduwa beach – this beach is often deserted and you’re more likely to share the shore with turtles from the nearby hatchery than anyone else. This villa is the perfect group for couples or a small family to relax in between enjoying the beach and nearby surf sports. There are a number of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and for additional restaurants, great shopping and cultural highlights, Galle is just a 15 minute drive away.
The villa’s entrance is festooned with beautiful bougainvillea and mini palm trees, and up a few steps you’ll enter a bright, open living space with comfortable seating, a long dining table and pretty shutters opening out to the balcony gazing out across the garden to the nearby ocean. There are two kitchens – the first is fully equipped for guests use with granite countertops, while the second – away from the hub of the house is a traditional curry kitchen where the chef can prepare delicious Eastern and Western dishes – specialising in traditional Sri Lankan food. Guests can order fresh fish and seafood straight from the local market or even better buy fresh from the local fishermen selling their morning catch. Heliconia has three bedrooms, all of which are en suite; there are two master suites with four-poster beds, private terraces and sea views, while the third bedroom has two single beds – perfect for two children. Set within the main terrace is a sunken private pool looking straight out to the sea, and across the lawned gardens a private gate leads straight onto the beach.
The villa is set near to many of the great local restaurants along the coast from Ahangama to Galle as well as popular surf breaks and other fantastic trips and excursions. Enjoy unique and exceptional outings into the lush countryside around Galle and explore unrivalled bicycle routes and canoe along the natural beauty of the Ginganga River just north of Galle Fort. The whale watching season is between December and April, an outstanding opportunity to see the Blue Whale and the Sperm Whale alongside dolphins and sea turtles at Mirissa just 25 minutes drive from villa. Have a guided tour around the Handunugoda Tea Estate and Factory including demonstrations and harvesting of white tea. This is in a beautiful setting, and worthwhile day just 20 minutes from the villa. Galle Fort is just 15 minutes away from the villa – a must visit UNESCO world heritage site. Take a stroll down the charming streets, have a chilled drink in any of the lovely restaurants, take a peek in the growing collection of boutiques and finish by walking the ramparts at sunset.
