Description
Extensive gardens encircle this fine family villa, the carefully tended lawns punctuated with banks of rosemary, lavender and thyme, and cooled with pools of shade beneath walnut and apricot trees. Terraces, beautifully furnished for lounging and dining, are protected from the midday sun by sturdy canopies and a pergola cloaked in roses and wisteria, and gaze out to gorgeous views over the valley and Monte Amiata. And a private swimming pool, a full fifteen metres long, is served by a poolside shower and changing room. Throughout the house, antiques and eclectic objets d’art create a very individual charm. The dining room now occupies the villa’s former kitchen, complete with big timber table and traditional raised fireplace, with the current kitchen jus next door. An informal living room opens out to the gardens; a study with WiFi and comfy seating is perfect for a quiet read; and bedrooms, colour-washed in country style, include a family suite. Villa Donatello’s guests enjoy use of La Foce’s tennis court and restaurant, and, each July, the estate hosts the international ‘Incontri in Terra di Siena’ cultural festival of concerts and events.
